Making index

Hello all,

ID CS4, vista business.

I'm trying to make something like automated index where should go all
personal names and names of the cities in the book. All of them
beginning with capital letter.

Now, I was thinking is it possible to find all the words beginning with
the capital letter - but excluding sentence beginning. And can that be
somehow added to index automatically?

Hope this make sense. :)

Thank you.

This is a pretty complex request. Are you sure a name never starts a sentence? Do names have more than one word? How about cities?

The folks best able to help will be found in the scripting forum.

Peter, you're probably right. It is seems that the only way is some sort
of script.

Thanks.

I've used Index Brutal, and it's a great script, but it won't automatically find words in your text. You must load a pre-defined keywords list. If you have such a list available, perhaps in a spreadsheet that you could export to text, it would certainly be a big timesaver, but if you have to manually search your text to create the list, you probably won't save a lot of time over creating a standard index.

Another possibility:
1. You export your INDD-file to a text file.
2. You create a word list (concordance) with Simple Concordance
Program (or other utilities), then delete all words you do not
want tot have in the index. So you get a word list to use with
Index brutale.

Unfortunately you have to export your Indesign file to ASCII-text
to use in CSP (utf8 is possible). So you lose your footnote text
(only you have footnotes in your INDD-files).

Greetings
Joern

I'll definitely check the script.

Thank you.
