Autoflow text problem

HELP!! I have received photos to put into a document (book) that already has
the text flowed and edited. There are separate chapters that start on new
pages (Keep Options was set for this). When I put in a text box in Chapter
One, the text displaces and I can't get the text to auto reflow and make new
pages automatically and expand the Chapter One (and not impact Chapter Two).
I've tried making new pages, what a nightmare that is... makes about four
blank pages with my Chapter Two after them. Two problems: I can't get the
outport to load and even if by some miracle it does load, I can't get the
displaced text to automatically make new pages.

This seems like such a basic task -- isn't text always getting displaced
when pictures are added and adjusted? I can't believe that InDesign doesn't
automatically unload and reflow text in situations like this. I must be
doing something wrong. What bibbity, boobity boo am I missing? Any advice???
Thanks

ID doesn't work like that. When you've already autoflowed text then add more, you have to add new pages manually at the end of the flow and run the text into them. If you're adding text to chapter 1, then you should see the start of chapter 2 (and all subsequent chapters) being pushed along and the text at the end of the last chapter becoming overset. You'll have to add blank pages between the end of chapter 1 and the start of chapter 2 then manually run the text through them.

Thanks for the info... I made the mistake of using the Keep Option feature
with each Chapter. I have 35 chapters to do and am only on Chapter 10...
Should I make each chapter a separate file and merge them into one file when
all chapters are finished?
Or... should I put them all in one file, get rid of the Keep Option between
chapters and keep adding pages at the end to make sure that the text
autoflows?

Perhaps adding chapters to one document would make a unweildy file for
working and slow down the actions. Are there any special features in ID that
make laying out a whole book (uninterrupted pagination, etc.) easier? I
heard that IDCS3 has a book chapter option for pagination... anything in
IDCS2?. I have IDCS2. Thanks!!!

By the way -- does the Adobe Help feature in ID access the internet or is it
part of the ID program? Lately I have been having problems getting the Help
feature to open up... the icon comes up in the windows tab, but nothing
opens up... maybe my computer is having a memory problem.

That's what the "Book" feature is all about. There are advantages to using book to combine multiple files, not the least of which are it is easier and faster to move around in smaller files, and you have less risk of data loss if something goes wrong or you do something stupid -- hopefully all you lose is one chapter, not the whole book.

Your workflow is up to you, but I always make each chapter a separate file and use the book function for the reasons Peter mentions. And, yes, ID CS2 has a book feature.

I don't know what keep option you have ebnabled for your chapters. I assumed you were talking about the "start on next [or next odd/even] page", which you can keep on while adding text to an earlier chapter.
