Is there a way to put a stroke of a different color around each dash of a dashed line. It seems i've seen this before in InDesign but am drawing a blank right now.

Best regards

You can if you have Illustrator, but I have no idea how one would do this solely with InDesign. I think it cannot.

it's easy :)

1) create FIRST dashed StrokeStyle
2) set CORNERS to NONE - no adjust
3) set CAP to first-left icon - none
4) duplicate just created StrokeStyle
5) set in SECOND (duplicated) StrokeStyle - CAP to right-last icon - or
center icon - for rounded corners

now you have two StrokeStyles:
- FIRST is for foreground line
- SECOND is for background line

if it's unclear - I can create Flash movie ;)

Robert, You understood what I didn't. I read that as having a dashed line around each dash of a stroked path...

But now I see that you read it right...

Robin,

In my experimentation I found you must also be sure to set the pattern length to exactly twice the dash length or the two strokes get out of synch when you add the end caps.

My mistake, I went back and looked again, and it seems I must have neglected to set the adjustment to "none." That's the whole key.

Nice tip, by the way.

thanks :)

this is very usefull when you need to create, for example, simple map of
city - create roads on one layer, set stroke to white, duplicate layer,
set stroke to black and increase weight - cross-roads look very good :)
even if you have main and side roads :)
