Hi,

I receive this warning, on occasion, whenever I try to paste in artwork directly from Illustrator. Then, it renders the artwork as a linked EPS - appearing bitmapped and uneditable in InDesign. How can I avoid it from doing this? Yes, indeed, I want it to paste in regardless of how many vectors there are (the file is really not that large).
How do I get around this?

File > Place.

It's not how large the file is, it's how complex the parts are when pasted into InDesign. This is why we don't paste artwork into InDesign files. If you insist on doing it this way, then you're seeing the price for it.

It's a nuisance because now I have to have 2 files for one. I was trying to avoid having to place the file for this reason. Vector logos and other small bits and pieces should be able to paste in from Illustrator. I hope they improve that.

I don't understand this statement. You place the same .ai file that you're copying. The only difference is now the ID file maintains a link to that file, and if it gets edited you have the option to update all the files in which it was used automatically. How is this more work?

Many can, many can't Ask almost any professional production or prepress person and they will tell you that Place is better than Paste. I get heaps of files from designers with logos pasted in. I replace every one with a placed Illustrator file. Every. One.
