Print problem with grey background?

I am trying to unscramble a problem that I am having printing on a bw laser printer, (HP 8150D).

I place an image on an 8.5x11" page in Indesign. This Photoshop image has no greyscaled background only white. When I print it on the printer there is a greyscale box covering the entire page with a small 1/4" border of white.

If I print the same image on an 8.5x11" page from Photoshop, where it was created, then no problem. Simple white background.

I've not had this problem before with other laser or in printers. I'm not sure what to be looking for as the culprit.

Is your image in the RGB color mode? It likely should be. Have you set the InDesign document to RGB? It should be. (Edit > Transparency Blend Space...) Did you choose the HP printer profile in the destination field?

Thanks, Mike.

The image is in an rgb mode. And Indesign is set at RGB and the HP printer is in the destination field.

I suspect that it has something to do with the photoshop file format but I can't be sure.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Does your color management settings match from Photoshop to InDesign?

In the Print Box set the Output to Composite GRAY when printing on a mono laser printer, and not Composite RGB

David,
Thank you so much. I knew this problem was something simple like this. I thought I had tried this but I obviously didn't make the change in the InDesign output option in the print box.
It worked.
Your small moment to help me with this is giving me much relief and saving me an enormous amount of time.
Thank you again.
As a way to say thank you, please go to, www.londonhousepublishing.com and if you are interesting in anything email me for a discount coupon. I should offer the same to Mike Witherell who was also trying to help me.
Have a good day! I know I will now.

No problem Michael. I had the same problem myself a couple of years ago when I was printing draft tech manuals in black and white. It was driving me nuts but I eventually figured out how to avoid the dreaded gray background.

I believe you can set your printer in InDesign via Define Printer and set that Output setting in there so you don't have to worry about it again when using ID in b and w.

Glad to be of help.

Regards

ps. Thanks for the discount offer.
