I'm surprised I haven't seen this topic elsewhere in the forum. I'm working with a document that I received from a publisher that was created in Quark and converted to IDCS. I converted it to IDCS2. It has 6 pages in the layout that are numbered I-VI (Master Page E), followed by the content restarting the numbering with page 1 (MP C) and then page 2 and following all use MP A. So there's a 2-page spread with MP E|C (p. VI and p. 1). I want to add a dozen blank pages, 6 2-page spreads all MP A, that follow p. 1. I'm following the instructions for adding pages into a layout: Pages Palette menu > Insert Pages > 12 pages After page 1 using MP A. It tells me a spread cannot have more than 10 pages. So I change the number of pages to 6 and I get this beast that is an 8-page spread: E|C|A|A|A|A|A|A where all the MP A pages are right-hand pages. I was expecting 3 2-page spreads inserted: E|C A|A A|A A|A etc. In a new document, it behaves as I expect. Why is it creating this odd multipage spread? Is there some setting I can turn off so I can insert 2-page spreads?

From the pages palette flyout menu disable allow pages to shuffle.

I think you mean ENABLE allow pages to shuffle. :)

I'm having the same problem, but when I enable allow pages to shuffle, it shuffles all my pages around whereas what I want to do is just to insert a double page spread.

What exactly do you mean, "it shuffles all my pages around?" All of the pages after your insertion point will by necessity move by the number of pages you add.

Not if you have keep spread together enabled.

Bob, is that last in response to my last post?

If so, I take it to mean that adding pages after a locked together spread will add them to the spread. This is not what I observe. Rather I get a new spread if inserting after the right hand page, but additional pages in the spread if adding after the left-hand page.

Perhaps you have a moment to expand/clarify your thought.

You're right, Peter. I read your post wrong.

If you add a page BEFORE a spread that's held together, nothing will
shuffle. But if you do it after they most certainly will.

Without a doubt the keep spreads together and allow shuffling commands are among the most confusing and consternating features I've encountered in ID. I often find myself changing one or another of them to get what I actually intended.
