How to open IDD latest version files in InDesign 2.0
(too old to reply)

Hi--

I have InDesign 2.0 for Millenium Edition Windows, the only version it will work with ME I believe.

I had a designer do work for me. He used the latest version of In Design. He sent the files to me.

It says cannot open file -- please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions or upgrade to the latest version of InDesign.

What plug-ins is it taking about? Where do I get them.

"Where do I get them"

You don't. You can't open an InDesign 3 or 4 file in InDesign 2.

Get your designer to send you the files as a PDF. You will be able to place
them in a document, but not edit them.

Upgrade to CS2. ID2 is way to old to work with it efficiently.

The term 'efficiently' is arguable. It works well enough unless you are working with others with newer software.

Correct. Upgrade your OS and InDesign to collaborate.

I suspect if the machine is still running WinME the OP would be better
off buying a new computer than upgrading the current one.

Actually, I just bought a new 2.4 GHz Dell for $387, not including monitor. Only 256 MB of RAM, but that's all our receptionist needs to run MS Office.

If you use ID 2.0 to upgrade to CS2 you cannot legally sell the copy of
2.0. The 2.0 license would be replaced by the CS2 license.

Thanks everybody for your insightful analysis of my situation.
I think I'll wait to buy a new computer for another year.
In the meantime, I'll get InDesign CS 2 and XP for $100.
I'll try to sell In Design 2.0 on ebay.
I'll let the designer do the edits, until I can get around to doing this.
I won't be editing the books in a major way for another year, and may let the designer do it instead of getting InDesign CS2.

However, Adobe Creative Suite CS2 Premium with Go Live interests me.
I have a website. I'd like to be able to do metatag changes on it.

I have Macromedia Contribute.

My website is a Dreamweaver website. Will it be usable in Go Live!

Understand that InDesign CS2 will not run on Windows ME.
