Abadi Font, Making it Bold
(too old to reply)

I am in the process of converting a document from an old application (Accent) into InDesign.

In Accent, there seem to be two Abadi fonts, regular and Light (that's what I see in Windows via the Control Panel), and the Bold button makes either of them Bold. There is no separate Bold font.

I cannot find any way of making the Abadi font Bold in InDesign. What am I missing?

Thanks.

Probably there is no Abadi bold and your old app has been making "faux bolds". Word processors and non-typographically sophisticated apps let you choose italic and bold when there is no corresponding font file and the app fakes the results. This is a bad idea, both because it looks awful and because it may cause problems at printing time. ID doesn't do faux bolds or italics automatically, but you can do it yourself by adding a stroke to text (Window>Stroke) or by skewing the text in the character properties. But, if this is the problem, I'd recommend that you get a font family that has these styles.

Thank you so much for your reply. What does it mean "skewing the text"?

Bending it to the left or right like an italic. It's an option on the
character palette.
