Indesign is installed as part of CS2 on a p4 system. Consistently crashes when spellcheck is run. Can I delete some files or reg keys that may be corrupt? Where do i begin to troubleshoot this?

First check if the language is set correctly. Seceond, select a word and choose Edit > Spelling > Dictionary. If ID does't crash, you can see which dictionary is used.

It is using the Eng.udc English USA dictionary, which is correct. Any ideas?

Try what happens if you set a piece of text to English (UK). If that works, most probably the data for the US spell checking are corrupted. In that cas it would be necessary to reinstall (unless someone knows where the spelling files are and if they can be replaced without problems).

Cody,

Dictionary files are located in C:\Program Files\<your_adobe_dir>\Adobe InDesign
CS2\Plug-Ins\Dictionaries\

if you off course install Adobe CS in standard place ;)

Called Adobe and Found the fix:
go to preferences > dictionary and change the path to a folder under the root of the drive. You should now see that the path has no padlock next to it. The crashes were occurring because indesign could not get write access to the dictionary file.
