I'd like to have a rectangle box with the bottom line being an inward arch towards the right, then have a colour gradient inside. Doable or should I be thinking Photoshop here?

Use the Change direction tool to change one of the bottom corner nodes of your rectangle (click the node and drag the
tool to produce your curve control points). Then fill with your gradient.

Hrm...I assume you mean the convert direction point tool? If so it's been a tad tough to try and get exactly what I need but that's my own lack of skill with the tool talking rather than the tool itself. If you meant something else please advise...and thanks for the fast reply!

Yes, that's it - memory's not as good as it should be.

The tricky bit is getting one of the handles dead vertical so that you have a straight line for the side of the
rectangle. You end up with a point at the bottom. If you don't want that you can add nodes with the pen tool on the
bottom edge and convert the line between them to a curve, looking more like a bridge.

Rob...don't forget about the Pathfinder panel. It's often easier to make multiple simple shapes, arrange them, then add-to/subtract-from to get the end shape desired.
