Removing 'shadows' from documents

Hello - I am having a problem removing 'shadows' from documents I am creating with In design CS2. I set up new documents (page width... etc...) but it seems to create a 'shadow' on the right hand side and bottom of every document. This is a pain as I need to put a 1 or 2 point border around the document, and when I do this it always makes the border on the right 'thicker' than the left side.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem, and stop shadows from appearing on any document I create?
I am using Windows XP Pro and have an HP compaq computer with plenty of ram / memory to do everything.

any help will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

That simply the interface. There's no way to get rid of it. You could
put a white box on the right side and bottom aligned right up against
the page and lock it on a locked layer.

What?? it is part of the interface and can't be removed??
Ok then I have another question, can you create a border on the left side and top of the document only?
We are creating documents that we send to the local Paper for printing and we would like the border to be the same width all the way round.
We save the documents to a PDF file then send them to the paper for printing if this helps.

thanks

As Bob said, you can mask it out with a white box on a locked layer. Do that
on a master page then you can forget about it.

If you have Snap to Guide selected and draw a rectangle, it should fit on all sides. The "shadow" doesn't print. Test it on a new page and make a PDF. The border should be equal all round.

Also check your stroke settings.
If you open the Stroke window, you will see three little boxes next to Align Stroke. They position the border differently.
Click an icon to specify the position of the stroke relative to its path.
The first icon is for centre alignment of stroke,
the second inside, the third outside. You need the second one for page borders.

You can also switch to "Preview" mode and it will disappear along with all non-printing things like guides as well as bleeds and other items on the pasteboard. Very useful for seeing what will print.

Sounds as if you think that the "shadow" will print or export--it won't. Don't bother masking it out with a white box--that will only cause trouble in the long run. Just draw the border around the page and you'll be fine.

Thanks,

Hi - thanks for all your advise / help.
I can switch to preview mode, and it disappears. However, even if I don't put a border around it, then save it / export it as a PDF, and open the PDF in Acrobat 6.0, the shadow appears...
Am I correct in what you are saying that when I send the PDF off to the press for printing the shadow won't appear / print in the paper?

many thanks

Are you creating PDFs as thumbnails? That would give you shadows.

Hi Bob - I don't think I am creating 'thumbnails' - although I am unsure what you actually mean.....
All I am doing is creating a document in Indesign, then going to the file menu - Adobe PDF presets, and saving it as a PDF file (for sending to the press). I have found that I can preview the document in Indesign, and the shadow does not appear, but once saved to a PDF the shadow appears....

If you're talking about a shadow on the paper, then that's not normal.
If you're talking about the document having a drop shadow on background
then that's quite okay.
