My company has switched over from Page Maker to In Design CS and we are coming across some questions about how linking works in CS and Version Cue.

How do you maintain file linkage in a production environment?

What is the best way to save/import Page Maker files in In Design and still keep all linked files?

If links are automatically copied into "My Documents" folder, what happens if multiple computers are involved? Can it be set up to include a Server?

Just open them in ID. You may very well have to relink the graphics.
Once that's done there should be no issues since you'll need to save as
InDesign and use ID going forward.

How about when the ID files are stored on the server using Version Cue... how can I maintain linking... when the file(s) is accessed from another machine or by another user...???

If the links are lost ID will ask if you would like it to fix the links automatically. Click fix and you're all done. It works much better than PM.

Even better, open the publication and click File>Package and ID will create a new folder including all the links needed.
