I have cover with one spot color. This color will change each month.

Previously this cover is done in quark, we create a new pantone then we delete the old pantone and replace with new pantone.

In Indesign I am not able to delete the old pantone, the delete became grayout, what would be the reason.

Have you tried changing the artwork and then updating the file. This makes the software take in the new colour.

Hope this helps

Have you place a graphic that uses that color? If so, you can't delete it.

You can simply add the new color and then use the ink manager to alias
the old color to the new one.

If the color isn't used in a graphic than export to INX and open that.
That should allow you to delete the color.

Hi, I'm not sure what you mean when you say export to INX. I also have the same trouble of not being able to delete pantone colors from my swatches - even when I have a blank page and no images or text are there. I would appreciate any and all help on this. Thank you.

Export to inx is on File/Export and change file type to Indesign Interchange. This was developed to let an older version of Indesign open the file. The added benefit was that in so doing it often cleaned the file of any corruption and problems allowing you to do things like delete swatches that could not otherwise be deleted. You do not have to open the inx file in an older version to get the benefit. Just export to inx and open the inx file in your current version of InDesign. However, like Bob said if you have a placed graphic that uses the color, the swatch cannot be deleted unless that graphic is deleted first.

"I also have the same trouble of not being able to delete pantone colors from my swatches - even when I have a blank page and no images or text are there."

Is this a brand new document or just a blank page in your current document? If it is a brand new document then you may need to trash your preferences.
