I am typing English text and need to be able to add the accents on French words as well as add some special french characters. How do I do that?

Most acents are available vie the keyboard. Option E will make an accent grave (´). If you immediately type a letter that has been defined (in the font you are using) with that accent, you'll get the character you want. So, Option E then e will give you é.

Beats the cap out of Windows.

Option C = ç
Option Shift C = Ç
Option E = ´ (áÁéÉíÍóÓúÚ)
Option I = ˆ (âÂêÊîÎôÔûÛ)
Option N = ˜ (ãÃñÑõÕ)
Option U = ¨ (äÄëËïÏöÖüÜÿŸ)
Option ` = ` (àÀèÈìÌòÒùÙ)

If you're using XP, can't you set your keyboard to a second language and then type it in that language? I've done it for Spanish, and work with someone who does it in Japanese characters.
