When working on one of my files, I had the following application error pop up:
________________

The exception Integer division by zero.
(0xc0000094) occurred in the application at location 0x04c3bb76.

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
________________

Clicking OK and CANCEL just closes InDesign. And the error message only pops up in that one file, not when I work on other files. I tried deleting the prefs file, but didn't fix anything. I've never seen this error before, and am wondering if there's anything I can do to save the file (as I assume it's an issue within the file).

Has anyone seen this error and know how to correct it? Thanks for the help!

(I'm running InDesign CS2 in Windows XP on an HP Compaq nc6400 laptop.)

Does the document use a font not used in your other documents? If so, the font could be improperly constructed.

If that's not the issue, try exporting to InDesign Interchange format and then open the .inx file to see if that solves the problem.

What were you doing when the error popped up?

Guys,

Thanks for the messages. Here's a quick rundown of the details of what I've seen and tried since posting the message yesterday.

The file I was working on was one I had previously used, with 4 links in the file (3 PSD and 1 PDF). Since I was only opening the file to use its layout as a basis for a new file, the links weren't needed. However, I had moved the links to a different location on my computer (I know, big faux paux), so I got the "Fix missing links" dialog box when opening the file. I clicked "Don't Fix" because I didn't need those particular links. It was after that action that the problems occurred. The moment I scrolled down to page two, or tried to zoom in, I got the error message I initially wrote about.

Based on Dave's advice, I checked the fonts in the file, but the only ones that were used were every designers favorites (sarcasm) Arial and Times New Roman. So I don't think it was a font issue. Then I exported to InDesign Interchange format, opened it, and everything worked...but the links appeared as a gray box because I hadn't previously fixed the links. So I relocated the missing links (even though I didn't need them) and relinked them into the file before resaving as an .indd file as a different file name. That solved the problem.

Then I figured I'd try to reopen the initial problem file and actually fix the links when prompted, even though I'd end up deleting them later. When I fixed them, the file worked fine. But then I closed that file without saving in order to test it again without fixing the linking, and when I reopened it, I got the originally described application error once again.

So it seems that the error was somehow related to the missing links, though it seems odd because I've worked with files with missing links before without having this issue. But, for the sake of this particular file, all is seemingly well...though I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
