Cropping PDFs in InDesign (or any image)
(too old to reply)

Hi all! I'm fairly new to InDesign. I've been using Quark for years, and now I'm trying to learn InDesign. In Quark, when I import a PDF (or any image), I can adjust the image box to crop out pieces of the image. In this case, it's a pdf that has crop marks. I am making it smaller than the page size, so I need to crop out the crop marks. Do I have to do this to the pdf? Or can I crop the pdf in InDesign? When I try to move the sides of the box to cover up the crop marks, it just shifts the image around... it doesn't "cover up" the crop marks. Let me know if that makes no sense at all. Thanks.

Use the selection tool and make sure you grab one of the eight handles
around the image. You'll see the cursor change to a double arrow as an
indication that you can crop from there.

As an added bonus...if you hold the mouse button down for a second or
two you'll see the curor change once again to white arrows and that will
enter what is referred to as patient user mode.

When you crop you'll see the effects live.

Also you can do this: when you Place the file, choose Show Import Options, then choose your options from the Crop to box.
